Former secretary of the prime minister’s office, Molla Wahiduzzaman’s freedom fighter certificate and the concerning gazette have been cancelled on allegation of forgery.
Currently he is serving as the chairman of the Privatisation Commission, in the rank of a state minster.
Earlier, the Liberation War affairs ministry issued a gazette notification, cancelling freedom fighter certificates of three secretaries and a joint secretary of public administration.
Later, Liberation Affairs ministry’s probe revealed that Molla Wahiduzzaman was not a freedom fighter.
Confirming the news, Liberation War affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque told Prothom Alo Wahiduzzaman claimed he completed four out of five steps of procedures to receive a freedom fighter certificate. NSI (National Security Intelligence) investigation revealed that some officials issued Wahiduzzaman’s gazette notification before completing the last step.
“Considering Wahiduzzaman’s plea, we did not cancel, but suspended his certificate earlier. He was given a chance for hearing as well. However, he could not provide valid argument in his favour. Then we cancelled his certificate,” said the minister.
When contacted, Wahiduzzaman said, “I came to know my certificate is suspended. I don’t know whether it is cancelled yet.”
