DNA profiling of Rana Plaza collapse victims has been closed leaving 105 bodies unidentified.Among the total of 322 unidentified bodies recovered from the debris of the 9-storey building,identity of 206 bodies could be traced in last one year since the worst industrial tragedy.
In the case of another 11 DNA results, each profile matches two workers. The National ForensicDNA Profiling Laboratory of the Dhaka Mediacl College Hospital finally submitted DNA results tothe labour ministry on Tuesday.
Labour secretary Mikail Shipar told Prothom Alo that there will be no more DNA tests of theunidentified bodies. The DNA results will be sent to the deputy commissioners’ offices at thedistrict headquarters through the Prime Minister’s Office. The DC offices will contact the familiesof the victims.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation helped analyse DNA providing special software. TheNFDPL recommended bringing RMG workers under a DNA database through making DNA testmandatory for employment in jobs, especially the risky ones.
A total of 1134 people were killed in the Rana Plaza collapse of 24 April in 2013.
