5th ASF Media Award giving ceremony held: To sensitize the acid violence issue on mass media and promote the role of journalists in preventing acid violence from Bangladesh, Acid Survivors Foundation has been organizing ASF Media Award to announce the best press productions of journalists, since the inception period of Acid Survivors Foundation. As a sequel, 5th ASF Media Award ceremony was organized on April 18, 2013 at Media Bazaar Hall of Bangabandhu International Conference Center, Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. Mr Greg Wilcok, the Australian High Commission to Bangladesh was graced as chief guest of the program.

In print media, Ms Rozina Islam, Senior Reporter of Prothom Alo was awarded as best reporter in Best Reporting category).

Ms Mansura Hossain, Senior Reporter of Prothom Alo was awarded as best feature journalist for Best Feature Category as well. Minul Islam manic from the daily Sun was honored as best photographer for publishing a touchy photograph of a Child on lap of an acid victim mother. In the electronic media, Tahsina Jessi from Somoy TV was awarded as best reporter in best reporting. In local reporting category, Sukanto Sen from The daily Juger Kotha in Shirajganj was awarded. Furthermore, as special award to honour, Mr. Shariful Alam from ATN Bangla and Mr. Babul Hossain from Shomoy TV were awarded consecutively in the best program and best videograpy categories. Dr Iftekharujjamna, Chairperson, Acid Survivors Foundation presided over the program. Monira Rahman, the Executive Director of Acid Survivors Foundation delivered the welcome speech .Moreover, Ms. Sarah Cooke, Head of DFID Bangladesh, Mr. Abdul Kaium, Associated Editor, the Daily Prothom Alo and Masuda Moni, Survivor Ambassador of ASF provided speech. As a special guest, Prof Akter Sultana, Chair of Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Dhaka University gave speech on behalf of Judges of the Media Award. In the entertainment moment, child survivor Babli performed dance as well as Masuda Moni sang a song. Of Judges, out of Prof Akter Sultana, , renowned literaturar Selina Hossain, Drama personality Mr ramendu majumder and photographer Mr. Shafiqul Alkam kiron were in the Judges Committee. The award ceremony was coordinated by ASF personnel and presented by A. k. Azad and Fatema Putul. To contribute in Mass Media for creating mass awareness and public opinion against Acid Violence, seven media professionals were given prizes as best in seven categories for publishing reports, features, photographs and telecasting Television program along with videography on the relevant issue those published and telecast in the period of 2010-2012, In order to placing best contribution in each category the each awardee journalist was honoured certificate, crests and a check of thirty thousand taka. With financial assistance from Australian Aid, the program was arranged. ASF Media Award will be given in future likewise the past years, as announced in the program. In the concluding period, Sunonda, an artiste from Chayanat performed two pieces of songs by Rabindranath Tagore.
